Liberation Rep Guidance
Each SU has a set number of Liberation Reps, who elect the Vice President Liberation and Equality. Each union has a set number of five Liberation Reps with one rep for each of NUS’ five Liberation groups:
- Disabled
- LGBT+
- Trans
- Racialised
- Women
What do Liberation Reps do?
Liberation Reps are selected by Students’ Unions specifically to vote for the NUS Vice President Liberation and Equality. This role is different to the NUS Rep role; more information on the role of NUS rep, your NUS rep entitlement, and NUS rep responsibilities is available below.

Who should I register as our Liberation Reps?
Ultimately, who you register is at your discretion – we believe that you know your members best. Our advice is to generally register the students you would previously have registered for Liberation Conference. This could be Part-Time Officers, network chairs, etc. We advise that where possible, Liberation Reps hold an elected role in your SU and/or, depending on how your SU does its decision-making, a position in which they represent students from their communities.
What we would advise is that your reps need to speak to the diversity of your student body. Reps should consult and engage with different groups in helping to decide how to cast their vote. We’d recommend registering students who are able to participate in NUS campaigns, including Liberation Collective activity, year-round.
