Online, via ZoomStudents are less likely to register to vote, not due to lack of interest, but because every time they move they have to re-register (and they move a lot!). Additionally they don’t always have all the information they need, such as many students don’t know they can register to vote at both their home and term-time addresses.
To address this, universities and colleges do a lot to support students in registering to vote. But the most effective thing they can do is to let students register to vote when they enrol or re-enrol each year. This is known as “registration opt-in” or “auto-enrolment”. It is also sometimes called the Sheffield Model after the two universities who first started doing it.
Join our webinar to learn more about the auto-enrolment process and how you can implement it at your university. With a general election coming up, now is the time to empower your students to exercise their right to vote quickly and easily.
This webinar will be hosted by our colleagues at Purpose Union. They have developed resources for university staff to quickly established registration opt-in here: https://www.purposeunion.com/s/Auto-Enrolment-Guidance
