You ran to be a student officer because you want to make change on campus. In this 90 minute workshop, we’ll look at what makes a great campaign, the tactics you and use to win and turn your ideas for change into a campaign plan that you can work on with your team.

Been wanting to lobby politicians at a local level but unsure where to start? Have you been lobbying councillors and want to improve your skills? In this session we are going to talk about how to support students and Officers to effectively lobby your councillors and local authorities about their campaigns. 

Whether it’s student media, local radio or you’re representing students nationally, being an effective spokesperson is essential. We’ll go through landing your messaging, the essential prep for a media appearance and handling difficult questions, as well as – of course – practicing good interviews. 

Liberation groups are essential for every Students Union and it’s vital we support them as much as we can. In this session we will talk about working with your on-campus liberation groups to support them and all students at your union. Whether your liberation groups are looking for support with their campaigns, helping students set up and run groups independently and creating safe spaces on campus, this module is targeted at anyone looking for guidance on. supporting your liberation groups. 

Good campaigners use power mapping to work out which decision-makers they should target, and how they can influence them. In this workshop, we’ll guide you through the principles of power mapping, and then we’ll apply them to your campaigns for the year, leaving you with a key campaign tool to help you win. 

What’s happening in Westminster? The question everyone is currently asking. This module will provide an overview of how Westminster works, how to influence and engage with different kinds of bills and debates, how Parliamentary events work, guidance on staying up to date with Westminster politics and how your SU can use Westminster to push forward your campaigns. 

You were elected to represent students, and now they’re coming to you with the changes they want to see and the experiences they’re having day to day. But what happens when these needs intersect, or even differ and contradict? In this session, we’ll go through your campus context deep dive into what your students’ needs are, and how to navigate the complex questions this can give you. 

Whether you’re giving a presentation to your Board, Governing Body or giving a speech to students or even in Parliament, your officer year is going to be full of public speaking opportunities. In this session, we’ll work together to come up with your core messages, the stories that you want to tell to win over decision-makers and how to land them all quickly. 

Coalition-building is the key to any great campaign but it can get complicated, quickly. This session is targeted at any SU looking for advice and guidance on how to build coalitions with other organisations, charities and campaign groups in your area to support your campaigns. We’ll look at building effective relationships, conflict management, coalition organisation and making your coalition impactful.
