As with all parts of NUS UK, NUS Liberation is run by students, for students.
NUS' Liberation work is led by the Vice President Liberation and Equality, who is elected by NUS Liberation Conference every two years, and is supported by a Liberation Campaigns Committee.
On this page you can meet the Liberation team and find out how to get involved.
Saranya Thambirajah - Vice President Liberation and Equality
I’m Saranya (she/her) and I’m the NUS Vice President Liberation & Equality 2024-2026. I aim for a reimagined education system with liberation at its core. For this we need the NUS to be a strong, relevant voice for change. During my term I will centre grassroots student voices, be guided by the communities I represent, and work for effective and empowering representation of marginalised students. Let’s organise together, build collective power, and strengthen our communities!
Liberation Campaigns Committee
Each year, a Liberation Campaigns Committee is elected at NUS Liberation Conference.
The Committee is made up of five elected members, one for each of the five NUS Liberation Caucuses (Disabled Students, LGBT+ Students, Racialised Students, Trans Students and Women Students). Committee members serve a one-year term, and their role is to support and scrutinise the work of the Vice President Liberation and Equality in the interests of their caucus, and enact the policy of their caucus and that passed by Liberation Conference.
