The UK Government has announced the UK will rejoin Erasmus+ in 2027.
Reacting to the news, Alex Stanley, Vice President Higher Education said “It is fantastic that another generation of students will be able to be part of the Erasmus programme. Students have been campaigning to rejoin Erasmus from the day we left so this represents a huge win for the student movement.
“From learning a new language, experiencing a new culture and making life long friends, the tales of students who were previously part of the programme and benefited so much from this programme have rung loudly in our ears. Since the UK left the programme, the number of UK students studying in Europe has plummeted, and as has the number of students from Europe studying in the UK. But now, the next generation of students from the UK will be able to experience it all, and campuses across the country will benefit from the perspectives of Erasmus students coming to the UK.
“It is brilliant to see that Ministers are expanding the programme beyond universities and into vocational training. No matter the pathway a young person chooses, exciting opportunities like this should be accessible to all.”
