We are devastated by the awful attack on the Jewish community in Manchester this morning as a congregation marked Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the Jewish calendar. Our thoughts are with the victims and everyone affected at this deeply distressing time for Jews in Manchester and across the country.
This alarming antisemitic attack escalates a cycle of violence, division and fear which threatens to stoke racism and divide communities, leaving us all less safe. We stand firm against violence and terror, and we strengthen our resolve to combat prejudice and hatred across our society.
Today’s events are extremely shocking and upsetting for Jewish students, and we encourage anyone who needs support to reach out to the Union of Jewish Students, your students’ union, Jewish student societies, your university or college, or to seek support in whatever way feels right to you. We urge students’ unions, universities and colleges to reach out to Jewish students on their campuses and in their communities, and to individual students - send your Jewish friends a text to check how they’re doing.
