National Lobby Day: information for student officers and students' unions

As a student officer, we know you know that housing is a big issue for students, but did you know that a huge 13% of students have experienced homelessness?

Students have told us that a big contributor to this epidemic of student homelessness is that landlords can require tenants to have to provide a UK-based guarantor. A guarantor is someone who agrees to pay your rent if you miss it, and landlords often demand that they earn a certain amount of money or own a home in the UK. This is a huge barrier for international, working class and estranged students, who often do not know someone who fits that criteria.

That's why we are organising a National Lobby Day for No More Guarantors in Westminster on 23rd October 2024.

A National Lobby Day is when all students' unions across the country book a meeting with their MP on the same day so that everyone in parliament is discussing the same issue at the same time.

Together, we can make student homelessness a priority for politicians, but we need your help!

Book a meeting with your MP using our email template here.

Meeting with your MP can be intimidating if you've never done it before, but we will support you every step of the way: from Zoom meetings in the run up to the National Lobby Day, to a pre-meet on the day and a social event afterwards.
