Ask members of the House of Lords to support student renters

Landlords requiring their tenants to provide guarantors makes housing inaccessible for working-class, international and estranged students, many of whom don't know someone who earns enough money in the UK to act as a guarantor. This contributes to the fact that 13% of students and 29% of international students have experienced homelessness.

Students and activists have worked really hard to introduce limitations on guarantor requirements in the Renters' Rights Bill (RRB) that is currently going through the House of Lords, and as a result, three Lords have put forward an amendment to limit guarantor requirements.

However, without the support of other Lords, this amendment might not pass.

That's why we need you to write to the RRB Committee to ask them to support the amendment. We have made this as easy as possible by drafting a letter for you. All you need to do is choose the one below that applies to you (home student, international student, parent, or supporter), which you can edit or leave as is, and our tool will automatically send to the committee.

We have until Monday 12th May to get this amendment passed while the Committee deliberates, so its essential you write to the Lords and share the action with your students ASAP.
