Response to the UK Government's decision to ban families of international students coming to the UK

Responding to the UK Government's decision to ban families of international students coming to the UK, NUS Vice President Liberation and Equality, Nehaal Bajwa, said:

"This is a cruel decision by the Home Office. International students are vital and valued members of the student community in the UK. This move discriminates against international students in forcing them to choose between a family life and a course of study, which no student should have to do.

"In many cases, it may mean international students are unable to come to the UK to take up their courses, and this is likely to disproportionately impact already-marginalised students, single parents, and those without significant support.

"Of course international students enrich life in the UK, especially in education, but subjecting them to additional restrictions such as this would be unacceptable even if they made no contribution. We call on the UK Government to overturn this bigoted decision."
