Vice President Liberation and Equality candidates

The candidates for the position of Vice President Liberation and Equality are listed below.

Avery Greatorex

University of Lancashire Students' Union

Statement:

Hi, I'm Avery (she/they). I'm a part-time officer at the University of Lancashire and I'm running to be your next VP Liberation & Equalities!

Before this role, I coordinated a national campaign against conversion therapy, built a trans mutual-aid network in Lancashire, and spoke at Parliament Square after the Supreme Court ruling. I grew up reliant on disability payments, so I've spent my adult life organising: against the far-right in Preston, in solidarity with Palestine and Preston’s small Jewish community, and with DPAC in Lancashire.

Our NUS must foster community everywhere, because this means more than just what's on campus.

Helo, Avery (hi/nhw) ydw i. Rwy'n swyddog rhan-amser ym Mhrifysgol Swydd Gaerhirfryn ac rwy'n sefyll ar gyfer rôl Is-lywydd Rhyddhad a Chydraddoldeb!

Cyn y rôl hon, bûm yn cydlynu ymgyrch genedlaethol yn erbyn therapi trosi, adeiladu rhwydwaith cymorth cydfuddiannol traws yn Swydd Gaerhirfryn, a siaradais yn Sgwâr y Senedd yn Llundain ar ôl dyfarniad y Goruchaf Lys. Cefais fy magu yn ddibynnol ar daliadau anabledd, felly rydw i wedi treulio fy mywyd fel oedolyn yn trefnu: yn erbyn yr asgell dde eithafol ym Mhreston, mewn undod â Phalesteina a chymuned Iddewig fach Preston, a gyda mudiad Pobl Anabl yn Erbyn Toriadau (DPAC) yn Swydd Gaerhirfryn.

Rhaid i UCM feithrin cymuned ym mhobman, oherwydd mae hyn yn golygu mwy na dim ond yr hyn sydd ar y campws.

Gawdham Melath

ARU Students' Union

Statement:

Hi, I’m Gawdham Melath (he/him), and I’m running to be your VP Liberation & Equality. For two years, I’ve worked to make my Students’ Union truly student-led not symbolic, but real. I believe liberation means students having a real say in decisions that affect our education, housing and wellbeing. I will defend trans students clearly, challenge racism, Islamophobia and antisemitism, and push for mental health to be prioritised over surplus. I will stay visible, listen properly, and make sure students are heard before decisions are made. NUS exists because of students and I will make sure students lead it.

Helo, Gawdham Melath ydw i (fo/fe), ac rwy'n ymgeisio i fod yn Is-lywydd Rhyddhad a Chydraddoldeb. Rydw i wedi gweithio ers dwy flynedd i wneud fy Undeb Myfyrwyr yn wirioneddol dan arweiniad myfyrwyr, nid dim ond yn symbolaidd, ond go-iawn. Rwy'n credu bod rhyddhad yn golygu sicrhau bod gan fyfyrwyr lais go-iawn mewn penderfyniadau sy'n effeithio ar ein haddysg, ein tai a'n llesiant. Byddaf yn ei gwneud yn glir fod mod i’n amddiffyn myfyrwyr traws, yn herio hiliaeth, Islamoffobia a gwrthsemitiaeth, ac yn pwyso am flaenoriaethu iechyd meddwl dros ormodedd. Byddaf yn parhau i fod yn weladwy, yn gwrando o ddifri, ac yn sicrhau bod myfyrwyr yn cael eu clywed cyn y caiff penderfyniadau eu gwneud. Mae UCM yn bodoli oherwydd myfyrwyr, a byddaf yn sicrhau mai myfyrwyr sy’n ein harwain.

John Rappa

Edinburgh University Students' Association

Statement:

Hiya folk! I’m John Rappa (they/them) and for two years I have served as VP Activities and Services at Edinburgh University SA. I began my first term with a quick two-minute commute from my university’s encampment straight to my Vice Chancellor’s office. I am running to reignite the fire, power, and hope I felt at that moment in the student movement. I am running both to maintain or to restore your trust in the NUS. I am running because Liberation is under attack, and I plan to return to my studies in a system better than the one I left.

Helo gyfeillion! John Rappa ydw i (nhw) ac ers dwy flynedd rwyf wedi gwasanaethu fel Is-Lywydd Gweithgareddau a Gwasanaethau gyda Chymdeithas Myfyrwyr Prifysgol Caeredin. Dechreuais fy nhymor cyntaf yn y rôl gyda thaith dwy-funud o leoliad y brifysgol i swyddfa’r Is-Ganghellor. Rwy’n sefyll i ail-gynnau’r tân, y pŵer a’r gobaith a deimlais y foment honno ym mudiad y myfyrwyr. Rwy’n sefyll i gynnal neu adfer eich ymddiriedaeth yn UCM. Rwy’n sefyll oherwydd bod Rhyddhad dan ymosodiad, ac rwy’n bwriadu dychwelyd i fy astudiaethau mewn system well na’r un a adewais.

Kunal Chavan

University College Birmingham Guild of Students

Statement:

Hi, my name is Kunal. As a second-year Sabbatical Officer and Board of Governors member at UCB, I bring hands-on experience in community organising and student representation. In my role as Equality and Wellbeing Officer, I have worked closely with Liberation Groups, campaigned for Gender-neutral facilities, launched a campus-wide facilities survey, secured a permanent prayer space, established a Wellbeing Hub, and promoted sexual health awareness. I have also advocated for affordable, accessible transportation. My commitment is to ensure every student experiences fairness, dignity, and genuine representation that delivers real, lasting change.

Helo, fy enw i yw Kunal. Fel Swyddog Sabothol ail-flwyddyn ac aelod o Fwrdd y Llywodraethwyr yng Ngholeg Prifysgol Birmingham, rwy'n dod â phrofiad ymarferol o drefnu cymunedol a chynrychiolaeth myfyrwyr i’r rôl. Yn fy rôl fel Swyddog Cydraddoldeb a Llesiant, rydw i wedi gweithio'n agos gyda Grwpiau Rhyddhad, wedi ymgyrchu dros gyfleusterau Niwtral o ran Rhywedd, wedi lansio arolwg cyfleusterau ar draws y campws, wedi sicrhau lle parhaol ar gyfer gweddïo, wedi sefydlu Hyb Llesiant, ac wedi hyrwyddo ymwybyddiaeth o iechyd rhywiol. Rwyf hefyd wedi dadlau dros drafnidiaeth fforddiadwy a hygyrch. Fy ymrwymiad yw sicrhau bod pob myfyriwr yn profi tegwch, urddas a chynrychiolaeth ddilys sy'n cyflawni newid go iawn a pharhaol.
