James PiersonThe All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Students is to hold a meeting on the Renters' Reform Bill and its implication for students.
The meeting will be on July 5th 2023 at 3:30pm.
The APPG is a cross-party group of MPs that meets to discuss and make recommendations to government on issues that affect students.
The Renters’ Reform Bill, as it currently stands, contains significant protection for student tenants. It would ban both fixed-term tenancies, and eviction without cause, which would both significantly help to shield students from landlord exploitation.
But the National Residential Landlord Association (NRLA), a major provider of private student accommodation, has lobbied hard for students to be exempted from the bans. As the Bill makes its way through Parliament, the NRLA will continue to lobby hard for the bill to be watered down, and student tenants to be exempted from its measures.
This is a huge opportunity for us as a movement to influence Westminster and fight back against those wanting to exclude students from the protections offered by the Renters' Reform Bill.
There will be a pre-event briefing in London from 2pm to help everyone take part and maximise this opportunity.
Please note: Due to site limitations we are initially capping this event at 25 registrations. If the event reaches capacity, please email [email protected] to be put on a waiting list.
