Love Our Colleges Week: Get Involved

In August 2018 our Vice President (Further Education) Emily Chapman, pledged her unwavering support for the Association of Colleges - #LoveOurColleges week. Here's how you can get involved.

Why?

We are partnering with the Association of Colleges (AoC) for Love Our Colleges Week from 15-19 October 2018.  As part of this week we are asking for two key things: fair pay for staff and fair funding for colleges.

Together, as a movement, we can show that a strong learner voice can make the difference when it comes to bringing about positive change in FE.

How to get involved?

There will be events and digital campaigns taking place across 15 - 19 October, including a mass lobby of Parliament and a #LoveOurColleges rally.

Sign the higher education open letter of solidarity with #LoveOurColleges week

Amatey our Vice President (Higher Education) has written an open letter of solidarity with #LoveOurColleges week. Several HE representatives have signed the letter and are proud to support further education students taking action to demand fair funding for our colleges and fair pay for our staff.

Signing the open letter takes less than a minute.

Sign the online petition: Increase college funding to sustainable levels - all students deserve equality!

Funding for colleges has been cut by almost 30% from 2009 to 2019. A decade of almost continuous cuts and constant reforms have led to a significant reduction in the resources available for teaching and support for sixth formers in schools and colleges; potentially restricted course choice; fewer adults in learning; pressures on staff pay and workload, a growing population that is not able to acquire the skills the UK needs to secure prosperity post-Brexit.

Signing the petition takes less than a minute.

Rally and mass lobby of Parliament, London
Wednesday 17 October

We will be heading to Westminster to lobby our MPs in a nationally coordinated lobby of parliament, alongside college principals and staff.

We want as much representation from college unions as we can get, by attending the mass lobby of Parliament  you can ensure that your voice will be heard and that further education needs funding.

Let us know if you'll be representing your college in Parliament by completing this quick form.

FEstival, Sheffield
Thursday 18 October

This year FEstival coincides with Love Our Colleges week. FEstival is our warm welcome to the student movement. Your chance to learn about what it is we do, and an opportunity to come together with student representatives and staff, to build a fairer and better funded further education system.

This event provides you with the skills, knowledge, and relationships, to do exceptional things in your students’ unions especially at a time where further education funding is on the brink.
