Students #CutTheCosts, saving £6 million at The Co-op with NUS extra

Tuesday 29 September 2015 NUS News

If you’re starting freshers’ week, there are plenty of ways to keep costs down – one of which is by investing in an NUS extra card.  With 850,000 active card holders saving each week, there are lots of discounts to choose from - including 10% off on items in The Co-operative Food stores.

Our partnership with The Co-operative Food continues to be one of the most successful discounts available to students. With 10% off in store, there are now approximately 100,000 students saving money each week. Since the deal was brought in, students have managed to save £6 million.

Richard Brooks, NUS Vice President (Union Development) said, “The costs of living as a student are astronomical. They’re making studying unbearable and the system inaccessible. Education is too important to let that happen – if education is suffering, society is suffering.

So as well as fighting for a better deal for students nationally, NUS works proudly with our partner organisations, through NUS Extra and students’ unions’ collective buying, to reduce costs for individuals as they study. The Co-operative is a leading light in this regard. The UK’s 7 million students, including me, are very grateful for their continued support and… er… co-operation.'
