Snap it Off across Wales

Thursday 6 February 2014 Live Greener

As part of NUS Wales Live Greener, we're proud to be promoting Snap It Off, one of the four programmes part of the project.

NUS created Snap It Off because students are concerned about how much energy is being wasted through unnecessary lighting. Not just on campus, but everywhere!

Snap It Off provides an opportunity for students to report lights that are on unnecessarily, and become part of the solution to energy wastage.

Simply take a photo, upload it to the Snap It Off website, text it to 07725 202020, or tweet it with the hashtag #snapitoff.  Snap It Off will then contact whoever is responsible to let them know that they could be saving a lot of energy and money by switching it off!  Check our FAQ to see the kinds of photos we are after!

Win £50 John Lewis vouchers!

We have a £50 John Lewis voucher to give away to the student (studying in Wales) who uploads the most photos by St. David’s Day (March 1) – so get uploading!

Working with Arriva Trains Wales

We are also working with Arriva Trains Wales to reduce their environmental impact in line with their brand new sustainability strategy.

Richard Gotheridge, Environment and Sustainability Manager for Arriva Train Wales has said:

“Snap It Off is a great idea. It is a fantastic outlet for students, and others, who spot wasteful energy practices to be able to do something positive about it.  We have light sensors controlling all our station lights and smart metering to monitor their energy use. But with lots of unstaffed stations, it is always valuable to find out where we can still make further adjustments or put things right quickly when they go wrong. Please send us your ‘spots’.”

Snap It Off is also part of the timebanking project which launched last week.

Working in partnership with TYF, we’ve developed a scheme where we reward you for all the time you put in to helping Wales become a greener place. Hour by hour, you can earn a range of prizes.

For every photo uploaded, a student will gain 15 minutes that they can bank, with a possibility of them winning prizes at the end of the month.

It doesn't just save energy  - it can win you prizes too. Next time you see unnecessary lighting, just snap it off.
