NUS is proud to support Teach the Future, a brand-new campaign launched by of SOS-UK, the new sustainability charity set up by NUS officers and staff, and UKSCN, the school strikers’ group.
Shockingly just 4% of school pupils feel that they know a lot about climate change, whilst 75% of school teachers feel they don’t know enough about climate change to teach it. It is the same story in colleges and universities.
Teach the Future wants to change this, and is demanding the Government implement six actions, starting with a review of how the education system is preparing young people and students for the climate emergency and ecological crisis.
NUS President Zamzam Ibrahim said “We all need to throw our weight behind Teach the Future. It’s a scandal that our education system is more concerned with exam results and starting salaries than how prepared we are to sort out the mess of previous generations. We are in a climate emergency, we need the Government to adopt our six asks right now”.
We urgently need your help to repurpose the education system and reinvent the future. Please register your support on www.teachthefuture.uk and sign our petition here.
