NUS responds to post-Brexit student loan interest rate hike

NUS is concerned that students who attended university after 2012 in England and Wales will see their student loan debt rise as interest rates soar generated by the UK’s move to leave the European Union. This particular cohort of students currently pay up to £9,250 per year for tuition alone and have seen a number of changes to higher education funding since tuition fees were raised to £9,000 per year.

Syrian refugees to be granted immediate access to student finance

This week the government announced that they will be granting Syrians who have resettled in the UK full refugee status. As well as being able to travel overseas more easily, this change means that Syrian refugees will have immediate access to student finance. Previously they would have had to wait three years before being able to access any student finance, putting University out of reach for many.
