NUS responds to report from the social mobility and child poverty commission

The National Union of Students (NUS) today commented on a report to ministers from the Social Mobility and Child Poverty Commission which stated that today’s middle-class children are on track to become the first in more than a century to be materially less well off in adulthood than their parents.  A recent student opinion poll conducted by NUS backs up these findings, with 44 per cent of students polled believing that their generation will be less well off than their parents.

NUS figures show new students face cost of living crisis

The National Union of Students (NUS) has today released new figures* which show an emerging student living crisis, with many new students struggling under increasing pressure to meet their day-to-day costs of living. NUS analysed available statistics for the cost of living for students for an academic year of 39 weeks in 2013/14 and compared it typical payments for government maintenance loans and grants for the same period.
