Has your relationship with your family broken down?

Thursday 17 July 2008 Campaigns Archive

Not all parents are as accepting as we would like and when LGBT students 'come out' this can lead to a break down in the relationship between the son/daughter and their parents. Not only is this emotionally stressful but, as all those who've applied for university will know, it can also have massive financial implications.

NUS LGBT has completed a report documenting the experiences of students in higher education who are estranged from their parents, and who therefore have to apply for funding as ‘independent’ students.

How you can get involved

The report is ready for publication and we’re now looking for a student who has been through this process and is willing to talk to the media to help us publicise it. If you think you can help, email us.
