The burden of debt being piled onto students’ shoulders is creating a crisis – not just in education, but for the economy. Join us in Westminster on 8 December and demand that politicians #CutTheCosts of student debt.
Spiralling costs and deepening debt threaten to make education even more unequal than it already is.
Despite the widespread recognition that debt was a significant cause of the 2008 crash, this government’s education system saddles students with massive personal debt.
Debt isn’t just your student loan, it’s so much more than that.
It’s your overdraft, the borrowing from your parents, grandparents and family. It’s pay day lenders and loan sharks. It’s working more hours than is good for your health and your grades.
It’s a deterrent to education. It’s a cause of mental health issues. It’s the difference between staying at home or going back to stay with your parents. It’s living on beans, or deciding whether to heat your flat or eat at all.
Debt limits your choices, or leaves you with no choice at all. It is bad for students and bad for Britain.
Join us and demand that the government #CutTheCosts of student debt.
