#iwill is the campaign to make social action a reality for 10-20 year olds across the country and we'll be celebrating thousands of inspirational young people during #iwillweek from 20-24 November!
Four years on from the launch of the campaign, over 700 #iwill partners have pledged to create more social action opportunities - and NUS is proud to be one of them.
We have pledged to work with students’ unions to evaluate and share the impact of student opportunities, provide training to students’ unions to help increase the number of students participating in activities and highlight youth social action throughout the country.
Youth social action is defined as ‘young people taking practical action in the service of others to create positive change’ and within students’ unions social action opportunities include volunteering, RAG and student fundraising, running sports clubs and volunteering in societies.
Working with business, education and voluntary sector partners, the #iwill campaign aims to ensure that all young people can access social action opportunities, whatever their background. Current levels of participation by 10-20 year-olds stands at around 40 per cent, the #iwill goal is to raise this to 60 per cent by 2020, which will mean an additional 1.5 million young people are active in their communities.
Last year saw 180+ celebrations take place across the week, with activities of all shapes and sizes. If you're involved in youth social action you can check out resources to support your activities here and can even upload your event to an #iwillweek map of similar events taking place up and down the country.
Students' outstanding efforts in their communities deserve to be recognised and celebrated - and #iwillweek is your chance to do just that!
