Friday 30 January 2009 Tips for Course Reps

NUS has created a bank of resources to assist Course Reps, plus, there are a number of events planned this year for you to take part in.

NUS Course Reps Conference - Wednesday 9 December 2009

  • 10am-4pm
  • Birmingham University Guild of Students, Edgbaston Campus, Birmingham University

This annual event organised by NUS is an opportunity for course reps, staff and officers responsible for representing other students or supporting course rep systems to come together, network and share experiences and good practice. The one-day event includes sessions for course reps as well as staff and officers in students' unions.

Course reps can choose from a variety of interactive workshops including:

Each course rep will receive a certificate recognising their attendance from the NUS.

As well as finding out about the current national developments in student representation, Officers and staff in students' unions can choose from sessions on various aspects of student representation, including how to make a case for changing your rep system to the institution, effectively representing postgraduate and international students at course level, and innovations in course representation.

The event will close with a panel debate looking at what students can and should expect from higher education, the apparent rise of consumerist attitudes amongst students and what this means for course reps, and systems of student representation in general.

All delegates will receive a pack with useful information and the cost includes lunch and refreshments.

A full programme will be available to download nearer the time, but early booking is essential to ensure your place is reserved.

Who should attend:

  • Course reps studying at higher education institutions across England and Wales, particularly those at faculty or departmental level. Students’ unions can sign up up to 8 course reps from their institution.
  • Staff and officers at students’ unions

What will I get out of it?

Course reps will have the opportunity to network with peers and representatives from across the UK and plan some ideas to take back to your institution. Staff and officers will have the chance to hear and share best practice and ensure their reps gain an understanding of key issues to assist them in their roles.
