Graduate Employability Award

Graduate Employability Award

Wednesday 3 April 2013

As a result of the report “working towards your future” we published with the CBI, it was clear that almost 70% of students wanted a nationally recognised employability award.  Similarly, students’ unions had provided policy to NUS requesting a similar project.  After a period of testing and stakeholder engagement, we’re now in the final phases of development of our national Graduate Employability Award, jointly administered with Pearson Education.

Simply googling a selection of words including 'employment', 'employability', 'student' and 'jobs' and you'll be faced with a barrage of information, lots of lengthy reports and data that seemingly as soon as you've read, it's out of date and someone else has something more accurate.  We've pulled together a few reports and videos which we think provide an excellent overview of some of the problems students and study-leavers are facing, as well as publishing our own view.  By taking some time to look at these links, we hope to be able to give you an overview of some of the biggest issues, and, then you can help us decide what action we take next.

Careers Service Charter

Wednesday 3 April 2013

Working with the Association of Graduate Careers Advisory Services (AGCAS) and other partners, NUS has prepared a graduate careers service charter which outlines some of the best practice around the UK where universities are working to improve employment prospects for their graduates.  By pulling the best ideas and services into one document, we aim to encourage students’ unions and careers services to forge strategic partnerships and campaign for service improvement of their choosing in their institutions.  The charter, which will be sent to students’ unions in due course, is released online for institutions, students, staff and students’ unions to discuss with instructions to begin an interactive strategic dialogue with careers services being published to support.  We’ll also be releasing a series of case studies expanding upon each point and explaining where it’s happening already or how we think this change would radically improve students’ employment prospects.
