Steve Chapman, University of Sheffield Students' Union

Standing in the election for National Scrutiny Council

Candidate statement

I’m the current chair of NSC, I recognise the current shortcomings of scrutiny in NUS and want to continue to work to change that. This year I’ve lead scrutiny, and welcomed questions, asked them of officers on policy and campaign commitments. I’ve also pressed for the formation of ARAF.

I’ve also raised questions of VPFE in absence of FE representation on NSC.

Rhys Wallis, University of Exeter Students' Guild

Standing in the election for National Scrutiny Council

Candidate statement

I'm Rhys, the Societies and Employability Officer from Exeter Students' Guild, and I'm running for NSC because accountability and scrutiny to the national student movement will be even more important as the devolution processes take effect. To maintain a cohesive NUS-UK, national scrutiny functions are crucial, and it requires a strong, empowered council helping facilitate accountability to, for and by students.

I have experience of holding key decision makers to account: I will do that on your behalf in this role, and let you into the processes to see accountability in action.

Break the cycle - Vote Rhys for NSC.

Nathan Wyatt, University East Anglia Students' Union

Standing in the election for National Scrutiny Council

Candidate statement

NUS is in dire need of reform and direction. As Welfare Officer at UEA I've worked closely with the VPHE and Liberation officers to make sure NUS works for students. I understand NUS and know how to support it.

I've been a big proponent of regional NUS groups - to make a strong national union we first have to make strong local connections!

I want to help build an NUS that is open, visible to students, and focused on making education accessible to all.

A vote for Nathan is a vote for an NUS that works for, not against, students!
