Funded by the Scottish Funding Council, the project’s aim was to empower students to take a leading role in reducing the carbon footprints of the communities in which they live.
The Pilot Project
The pilot project worked with two colleges and two universities in Scotland.
Volunteers were given carbon management training to enable them to carry out carbon audits both on campus and in their communities.
Carbon audits show the organisation how they can make changes which result in both significant carbon and cost savings and can develop positive behaviour change.
Visit the pilot project page for more information and FAQs.
The Second Phase
The second phase of the project was granted further funding from the Scottish Funding Council. Its aims continued from the pilot project and included:
- Inspiring behavioural, cultural and social change amongst students and individuals involved in the project,
- Building new community bridges between Scottish students’ associations and their local communities
- Enhancing the employability of the student volunteers by providing practical experience of energy auditing, skills in energy management and other transferable skills such as team building and interpersonal skills.

Interested in making changes in your community?
Your students’ association will have further details of the work they are doing at the institution and in the local community.
This may be a carbon ambassador project continuation, a society you can get involved with or another community group.
Ask them about how you can get involved or take a look at some of these organisations:
