Wins for further education students

Thanks to our work with the then Department for Education and Skills  (Dfes), colleges and the Learning and Skills Council  are required to have an effective, and monitored, strategy for their students.

They’re also legally required, thanks to NUS lobbying, to have two student governors representing the interests of students rather than just one.

Well, aside from our full-time further education officer being a recent FE student herself, our suggestions to government come from our member students’ unions – students’ unions like yours. 

In Wales

For students in Wales, NUS and NUS Wales also successfully lobbied for an Assembly review of the Welsh further education situation and a member of NUS Wales was permanently placed on the review committee.
