What is NUS asking students to do for the General Election?

Every student has a part to play in winning a fairer funding system.

  • Find this useful?
To strengthen our position and ensure students concerns are heard in the upcoming review of higher education we need to mobilise as many students as possible to vote in this General Election. NUS need students’ to:

  • Pledge to vote for a candidate who commits to not vote for an increase in fees in the next parliament
  • Encourage as many people  as possible to vote, you can do this informally or as part of your students’ union’s activities. Contact them to find out what is happening locally.
  • Ask your local parliamentary candidates to sign the parliamentary pledge
  • Vote on polling day and encourage your friends and family to do the same.

Every student vote is important to increasing the overall student turnout. A high turnout of students will underline how important the student vote is and improve our hand when it comes to negotiations with the next Government.

NUS will be encouraging key student marginal constituencies – areas where the student vote can have a massive impact, to prioritise and increase their efforts in mobilising students to vote. This will enable NUS and students' unions to pressure candidates into supporting student issues.
