The WWNC represents more than 50 organisations representing women in Wales representing their views to government and internationally with similar organisations from England and Scotland; the English and Scottish equivalent organisations are 100% government funded.
The NUS Wales Women’s Campaign believes that this is a short sighted decision by the Minister and will have a detrimental affect on the women’s sector and women’s rights in Wales
NUS Wales women’s officer Estelle Hart said “at a time when the basic rights of women are being challenged on a daily basis and hard fought gains of the women’s liberation movement are being threatened this decision represents a massive blow for women across Wales.”
The stopping of this funding will mean Wales will be the only UK nation without international representation for women, or collated representation on behalf of women into policy and decision-making.
In a letter to the Minister on behalf of the campaign Estelle wrote “when women are still not paid anywhere near an equal wage and violence against women is endemic, to in effect, silence the voice of women in Wales is at best foolhardy.
I would urge you to reconsider his decision in light of the detrimental impact myself and many others in the women’s sector believe it will have.”
Register your objection to this funding cut and ask Minister for Social Justice Carl Sargeant to reconsider this decision by emailing him on carl.sargeant@wales.gov.uk
