Students at the University of Central Lancashire (UCLan) have been involved in inspirational environmental schemes as part of the university's groundbreaking sustainable development strategy.
The strategy paved the way to victory at the Green Lancashire Awards held on the 19 November 2009.
Amongst a myriad of sustainable actions, students have successfully:
- Campaigned for electric vehicle charging points on campus
- Volunteered in communities
- Donated unwanted items from halls to end of year re-use collections for charities
- Continued to pledge to use shower timers
The wide reaching strategy has also campus wide change:
- Integrating sustainable development into student curriculum and research
- Launching a Centre for Sustainable Development
- Rolling out recycling facilities to all buildings
- Installing microgeneration
