Students' unions celebrate Chinese New Year 2011

This week, students’ unions across the UK are celebrating Chinese New Year with a range of different events and activities to welcome in the year of the rabbit.

On Saturday 5 February, thousands of students will attend the annual Students’ Guild Chinese New Year festival at Exeter University which includes a grand opening, a dragon and lion parade, a Chinese market, fireworks and a Chinese variety spectacular.

On Tuesday 1 February the University of Sussex CSSA (Chinese Students and Scholars Association) will be holding a Chinese New Year celebration on campus with the support and funding from the Students’ Union and the University, as people from all backgrounds come and celebrate the New Year, including home students, the local community and fellow students from the University of Brighton. 

The evening will begin with a traditional Chinese buffet with a range of Chinese cuisines on offer to those who attend, there will then be performances from student groups including Break Dancing, Magic, Comedy and Chorus Singing. After performances the disco and dancing begins, inviting all to dance and celebrate the New Year.

The Warwick CSSA are celebrating the beauty and mystical delight of the traditional and modern Chinese culture with a New Year's Gala which will present the Chinese culture in a visually and aurally revitalizing manner. There are wide varieties of shows included live performances of traditional and modern cultural dances, vocals, musical with Chinese traditional and mainstream instruments, drama, stage comedy, so on.
