From a total of 29 cabinet ministers, just four are women. There is only one black member of the cabinet, who is unpaid.
In 2008 David Cameron made a promise in The Observer that he would give a third of the jobs in his government to women. This is a promise he clearly now does not intend to keep.
Both women, and black, politicians have been absent from this election campaign. They were also absent from the negotiating teams which 'stitched' up the deal that has condemned women and black people to the sidelines.
The NUS Women's Officer Olivia Bailey said:
"It is a disgrace that Cameron's cabinet completely forgets about women. Without women represented at the top table, women's voices and concerns won't be heard. The NUS Women's Campaign urges the Conservative-Liberal coalition to take urgent action to address the problem - and to ensure that women aren't the victim of the Con-Dem deal."
The NUS Black Students Officer Bellavia Ribeiro Addy said:
"Britain's black communites were decisive in this election and the black students campaign welcomes the election of 27 black Members of Parliament. We are however deeply concerned about the severe lack of black representation in Cameron's cabinet and insulted that the only black member also happens to be unpaid. This Government has clearly paid lip service to the black communities demands for increased black representation at all levels and should be ashamed of the lack of diversity in the cabinet ."
