The leader of the National Union of Students in Wales has condemned the failure of Blaenau Gwent County Borough Council to deliver quality education after the council was put into ‘special measures’ by the Welsh Government.

NUS Wales President Luke Young, from Blaina, has expressed his anger and concern at the clear and substantial failure in the management of schooling in the Local Authority.

In reaction to this news, NUS Wales President Luke Young said:

“I am deeply disturbed to hear that young people in Blaenau Gwent are being let down so badly. The learning experiences that children have at school have a huge impact on the job and educational opportunities open to them later on in life. The inability of the council to get to grips with the issues will have a long lasting effect on the school children that they have failed.

I only hope that some good can be salvaged from this fiasco.”
