Tavish Scott, Scottish Liberal Democrat leader, said:
“My party is happy to support the Reclaim Your Voice campaign by NUS Scotland.
"The next Parliament faces difficult challenges. But Scottish Liberal Democrats understand that, by taking the right decisions now, Scotland can build a better future. We have been the party of education. And we will be the party of education at this election.
"We want to help shape a government that will create a brighter future for Scotland. Education is crucial to Scotland's international standing and economic growth ambitions. Everything we do must help the country on the path to sustainable prosperity. Every Scot should have the chance to make the most of their lives.
Protecting places
"Scotland has a further and higher education system of which we can be immensely proud. It is in all our hands to ensure that we not only maintain that system, but improve it. So we want to increase the opportunities available to people in Scotland, whoever they are and wherever they come from.
"Not everyone will follow the same route – it could be college or university, in-work or distance-learning, full-time or part-time, straight out of school or retraining after years in employment – the important thing is to provide the skills and opportunities individuals want and our economy needs.
No tuition fees for Scotland
"We will not bring back tuition fees for Scottish students and we will not introduce a graduate contribution. We will keep education free. We want to open up opportunities, not close them down.
"Our education system should give all those who can benefit the opportunity to do so, removing barriers to access where they exist. Every student should be able to study at the level appropriate for them.
Improving student support
"For the future, our main objective should be to create a support system which is simple, equitable and fair. It must meet the increasingly varied needs of a diverse student body. And we must make the money we have work harder for students.
"Getting this right will make a huge difference to Scotland. It will reduce drop out rates, widen access, and help take the strain off hard pressed families in Scotland. It will mean that the right people pursue the right education and get the right support to do it.
"Liberal Democrats know that partnership working between universities, students, businesses and government is a necessity now and beyond the election. NUS is a critical partner in our ambitions to build a brighter future for Scotland."

Liam Burns, President of NUS Scotland, said:
"This is great news for students in Scotland. The Scottish Liberal Democrats have committed to students, ruling out fees, protecting graduate and college numbers and improving student support.
"The UK Government hugely betrayed students across the UK last year but the Scottish Liberal Democrats, with almost all the other main parties, are showing that the Scottish Parliament is different and can take a different route.
"We will now work to make sure commitments before the election turn into urgent action soon after 5 May."
