Anti-abortion MPs are set to restrict women’s abortion rights when the Bill is voted on at its decisive Report Stage, despite eighty-three per cent of people supporting a woman’s right to choose.
Abortion Rights believes the law should reflect that majority and a public meeting will take place at the House of Commons on Tuesday 6 October to launch the campaign to defend and extend abortion rights. NUS’ National Women’s Officer Katie Curtis will be speaking at the event.
Pro-choice
“For the fourth year running, abortion rights is an integral part of our priority campaigning. Earlier this year, women across the country campaigned and lobbied the government to retain the 24-week time limit, which was successfully achieved,” says Katie.
“However, this is not the only issue we currently have with women’s reproductive rights. We are still unable to access abortion on demand and many women are unable to access an abortion, let alone information and advice on abortion, in some parts of the country.
“This is not good enough. For this reason, we will continue to campaign on liberalising abortion rights in the UK and lobby for changes in the law to ensure women have access to abortion as early as possible and as late as necessary.”
