Investing in Skills consultation

These included written evidence to the Investing in Skills consultation which includes proposals for a number of changes to student support, including changes to Education Maintenance Allowances.

NUS Wales identified potential risks attached with the proposals, including restricting access to student support for a number of learners. We are now waiting for the outcome of this consultation.

Finance Committee Enquiry

NUS Wales also gave written and oral evidence to the National Assembly for Wales Finance Committee inquiry about the possible effects of the 5% 'efficiency saving' to the education budget in Wales We highlighted the potential impact on students in both further and higher education of such drastic cut at a time when the education sector is already suffering from a major funding gap compared with England.

During the oral enquiry, Deputy President Lleu Williams said: “Things are already stretched, so the efficiency savings which the government has called for will lead to cuts in learning and teaching.”
