Zone Conferences give students and staff space to debate NUS’ key policy areas in an informal and interactive way.

NUS is made up of five zones (society and citizenship, welfare, further education, union development, and higher education) and each zone is allocated 24 hours where delegates will be able to listen to speakers and get involved in debates and workshops.

The week of zone conferences acts as an introduction to the work of the zones for incoming officers and students, yet it is also a key part of NUS’ democratic calendar. Each zone conference is rounded off by the election of a zone committee who advise the relevant vice president on their work throughout the year.

This year’s event is themed around a quote by Mark Twain: “twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Explore. Dream. Discover”.
