NUS has been nominated for a Third Sector Excellence Award for our success on the HSBC campaign in September 2007.
We have been short listed in the use of digital media category for our use of facebook in the campaign. We used the social networking site to generate interest among both students and the press.
The Third Sector Excellence Awards recognise and celebrate the vital work that voluntary sector organisations do as the conscience of society, ie drawing attention to injustice and demanding progress.
“This is fantastic news for NUS and shows how much we have improved and developed in recent times,” said NUS President Wes Streeting. “It’s great to have our good work recognised by an external organisation and hopefully more of our campaign successes will receive similar recognition over the coming year.
“I would like to congratulate all those involved in the project, and especially those staff who supported Vice President (Welfare) Ama Uzowuru and myself in the campaign. I think that this is a great achievement, and shows how officers can work together on campaigns to achieve great things.
“It is a testament to how far NUS has come over the recent years, and shows that when we use innovative campaigning methods, and have clear objectives we can effectively defend and extend students’ rights.”
- The awards ceremony will take place on the 18 November in London where the award winners will be announced.
