The study by the Association of Graduate Recruiters showed that the number of jobs available to graduates has decreased again (by 6.9%), the number of graduates applying for each job has more than doubled in two years (up to 68.8 in 2010 from 30.7 in 2008) and average graduate salaries have stayed the same for the second year in a row.

Commenting on the findings, Aaron Porter, NUS President, said:
“Graduates are leaving our universities with world-class skills and knowledge and have the ambition to make important contributions in the UK.”

"We are concerned that the savage cuts to the public sector will create further unemployment, and will make the lives of graduates tougher in an already difficult jobs market."

“Graduates will be the engines of our economic recovery and the government must invest in creating the jobs and training opportunities so that this exceptional pool of talent does not stagnate.”
