NUS responds to figures showing a rise in university applications

Responding to figures published today by UCAS showing an 11.6 per cent rise in university applications this year NUS has called for the government to stop cuts to university funding.

Aaron Porter, NUS President, said:
“These figures show that the numbers of people with the ambition to go university is exceptionally high. With a more competitive jobs market than ever and more and more employers needing the skills provided by graduates it is vital that the Government invest in higher education.”

“It is a mistake to cut the number of places at universities when demand is so high and the country needs a highly skilled and knowledgeable workforce to help rebuild the economy.”
