The meeting comes a week after the previous Chief Executive and Chair of the SLC were forced to resign after an investigation found that the organisation had not successfully made sure that the last year's debacle that led to students receiving loans late would not be repeated this year.
NUS President-elect, Aaron Porter, said:
“We have for some time called for changes at the top of the SLC following the blundering mismanagement that affected hundreds of thousands of students last year and we welcome this opportunity for new leadership."
"Processing delays, along with recent redundancies, website problems and confusion over-repayments do not bode well for the organisation's ability to avoid a repeat of last year's loans fiasco. We wish Ed Lester and Professor Sir Deian Hopkin well in getting a grip on the SLC, which is a lifeline to millions of students."
“This is an opportunity for the Student Loans Company to put its previous calamitous reputation firmly behind it. I look forward to working with the new leadersip to secure cast-iron guarantees that students will never again be left without vital financial support.”
