The fund aims to help individuals and communities in England to live more sustainably, reducing their carbon footprint and reducing pressure on national resources.
Project aims
NUS' aim is to change the behaviours of 90,000 students and staff across 20 universities in England.
The project will comprise of four key actions:
- Better energy mangement through Student Switch Off campaigns and eco-rangers
- Increased recycling through environmental accredited award schemes
- Reducing non essential-flying through self-directed change techniques
- Adopting lower carbon diets through shoppoing and cooking advice and best practice in unions.
Wes Streeting, NUS President said, "Students in the UK care passionately about the environment. The Green Living Fund means NUS can support them to live green lifetyles and enthus those around them to do the same. Students today will have a major influence on the world tomorrow meaning the impact is direct and long lasting."
