We are proud to be offering the first day of this conference free. The event provides Black students with a great opportunity to come together and learn about the Campaign and its initiatives. It also allows students to engage in debates on contemporary issues while networking and sharing information.
The weekend will feature a number of high-profile speakers from the Black community. In recent years our speakers have included the head of the Black Police Association, representatives from the Muslim Council of Britain, National Assembly Against Racism, and Operation Black Vote, as well as Black journalists and MPs. It will also include a number of workshops to provide delegates with training on running clubs and societies, building anti-racism campaigns and increasing Black representation.
Anecdotal evidence shows that Black students who attend this conference go back and take up initiatives in their unions. We strongly encourage you to send a delegation, as this is an excellent opportunity for your students to be introduced to the Campaign and contribute to the democracy of your union. It also enables us to build links between the Campaign and students’ unions societies.
You are invited to attend for the duration of conference but may register for individual days if preferred. To register your place, please speak to an officer in your students union. Your union will cover your accommodation and travel at the event.
Who should attend?
Black students/BME/Ethnic minority/Race Relations’ officers, Black sabbaticals, or Black members of student groups i.e. African/Caribbean, Arab, Asian, Chinese, Hindu, Islamic and Sikh societies.
