Now, 90 years on, we reflect on the flourishing history of our national union, the pivotal role it has played in enhancing students’ lives, and the great progress made by students’ unions over the years.

Over the next year we will be celebrating our history, kicking off with a parliamentary reception later this month, hosted by Jack Straw MP, NUS President 1969-71. This event will bring together past and present officers, staff and friends of NUS, giving the opportunity to reminisce in a suitably distinguished setting.

In April, National Conference will have a special 90th anniversary theme, and delegates will get the chance to hear from Stanley Jenkins, NUS’ oldest surviving ex-president, who was in office from 1949 to 1951.

At the end of the year, Mike Day, Director of Nations, will be launching his book on the history of NUS.

And don’t forget, throughout February, you can find interviews with past personalities, histories of individual students’ unions, and a special montage video at www.nusconnect.org.uk/news/spotlight/

If you have a special story about your involvement in NUS, or you have alumni who were involved, please get in touch and get involved in the celebrations. Send your stories and pictures to Lisa Pool, NUS Communications Producer. Or you could tweet your stories, either @nusuk or contaiing #NUSat90 - or find us on Facebook.

Here’s to another successful 90 years!
