The Board will form a central part of NUS' new governance structure, which was approved by members at an Extraordinary Conference in January, and  will ensure that the organisation runs efficiently and effectively.

The four lay trustees will be:

• Dr Dame Karlene Davis D.B.E. – former General Secretary / CEO, Royal College of Midwives
• Jacqueline Davies – Group Head of Talent, Performance and Executive Resourcing, Lloyds Banking Group
• Kate Davies – Chief Executive, Notting Hill Housing Trust
• David Fletcher – Registrar and Secretary, University of Sheffield

The Board will consist of NUS President Wes Streeting, who will chair the Board, four NUS student officers, six students and the four external lay trustees.

New chapter

"This is an exciting new chapter in NUS' history and an important part of the extensive process of reform and modernisation we have undertaken during the past two years to make NUS a stronger force for students," says Wes.

"I am delighted to welcome four distinguished lay trustees, who bring a wealth of talent and experience to our new board. NUS remains student-led but these people’s expertise will ensure we are better managed and governed."

NUS Chief Executive Matt Hyde agrees that this is a key point in the organisation's history. “This is a milestone in the organisation's development and the lay trustees will add a considerable amount to NUS. I am greatly looking forward to working with all the new trustees.”
