The winner of the Technology Innovation Award will be a current student or a students’ union who can demonstrate how they have used technology to dramatically impact the lives of students around them. They will have displayed flair in the practical application of technology to creatively seize untapped opportunities or solve problems.
The new award category joins 12 others which all celebrate excellence in students’ unions, student media and students. These include Student Journalist of the Year, Club or Society of the Year, and the prestigious Endsleigh Student of the Year.
The NUS Awards, in partnership with Endsleigh, recognise excellence within the student movement and are open to students at NUS affiliated unions. Now in their fourth year, the NUS Awards highlight the achievements of student media, students' unions and individual students from across the UK.
To enter, students must use the online submission form where in no more than 1,000 words nominators must explain why the person or union is deserving of the award, paying particular attention to the criteria. The deadline is 1pm on Friday 6 May. Click here to enter the Awards.
The winner will be revealed at a special NUS Awards ceremony in Leeds on 20 July 2011. A lifetime contribution award will also be presented to an individual who has played a consistent and important part in the student movement and NUS.
NUS President Aaron Porter said: “Technology has become an increasingly important part of how students and students’ unions improve the lives of those in their communities. This award will demonstrate how the student movement is leading on innovative ways to make a difference.
“The NUS Awards are a unique opportunity to exhibit the successes of students and students’ unions, and the valuable contribution they make to their fellow students, university or college and the wider community.”
Endsleigh managing Director Ian Passmore said: “Endsleigh is supporting the NUS Awards because it underlines and celebrates the importance of excellence in the contribution of students and students' unions to everyday life and also to society.
“Many of the qualities we value – leadership, determination, commitment, teamwork, exceeding expectations – will be evident in nominees and the NUS Award winners. We applaud the achievements of all those who are nominated and are proud to be the official partner for the NUS Awards 2011.”
