The report argues that information, advice and guidance (IAG) will be crucial to getting more disadvantaged pupils into higher education, quoting research that found that only half of youngsters received adequate advice on their options after school.

Better guidance

NUS President Wes Streeting said: "NUS has long called for better guidance about higher education for state school pupils. This report provides a compelling case to improve information in schools so that people from non-traditional backgrounds are judged on their ability and potential to succeed."
