Many students and graduates struggle to obtain their first career role after completing their degree. Over the years it has been shown that Black students face higher rates of unemployment after graduation than White graduates.

For example unemployment rates for Indian women graduates are twice those for White women, and unemployment rates for Pakistani and Bangladeshi women graduates are about four times higher (Bagguley and Hussain, 2007).
 
It is important for Black students to prepare themselves for the job market. Black graduates make a vital contribution to the work of every sector and many employers value the benefits of diversity in the workplace. There’s a range of resources and advice available to graduates on careers, jobs and placements. 
 
Moving On is a document specifically created for Black students and graduates. It is a guide to employability and provides information that will help you find employers who value diversity, inform you of your legal rights and the options open to you.
