Launch of Wales Initiative for Student Engagement in the Senedd

On the 12th October, student officers and representatives from across the Welsh Higher Education sector gathered in the Senedd for the launch of the joint statement on student engagement in higher education, hosted by the Minister for Education, Jane Hutt AM.

Mr Roger Thomas, Chair of HEFCW Council welcomed attendees to the event and introduced the speakers.

The Minister praised the sector for working together to promote this initiative, highlighted the importance of student engagement at every level of education and re-iterated her commitment to fairness and social justice.

Katie Dalton, the President of NUS Wales also made a speech, focussing also on the importance of student engagement, followed by Anthony McClaren, the new Chief Executive of the QAA, making his first public speech since taking up the post.

“NUS Wales would like to thank the Minister for hosting this event and for supporting the initiative.

We would also like to thank HEFCW for funding the project, and all sector bodies involved in the development of Wales Initiative for Student Engagement. It was great to see so many SU Presidents, Education Officers and General Managers at the event, joining with university representatives to promote student engagement at every level of higher education.”
