Seven members of the Colombian Agricultural Workers Union, FENSUAGRO, have been killed for trade union activities this year alone; their leaders are now under threat with assassination imminent. NUS is working with JFC to end human rights abuses.
Originally established to highlight the abuses suffered by trade unionists in Colombia, JFC now also campaigns for and works with Colombian human rights organisations, student groups, peasant farming communities and indigenous peoples. They also support calls for a peace process in Colombia to end the conflict, and campaign against UK military aid to Colombia – until the Colombian Army stop abusing human rights.
Reporting human rights abuses
NUS and JFC are working together to produce a report about abuses against students in Colombia. Susan Nash, said: "As a proud affiliate of the Justice for Colombia campaign NUS will continue to work closely with our trade union partners, highlighting to our members the appalling and systematic human rights abuses students and other activists currently face in Colombia.”
Please support the work of JFC by visiting their website. You can send protest messages to the Colombian regime about the ongoing abuses, support the campaign to have political prisoners in Colombian jails released and complain to our own Government about their military support to Colombia.
You can also join the JFC facebook group and keep the campaign going.
