Hundreds of Women Students March to Reclaim the Night

This Saturday, hundreds of women students will march through the streets of London to protest against violence against women, and against the fear of violence that women face when walking the streets alone. Over 3,000 women are expected to take to the streets on Saturday, in the biggest show of solidarity against violence of the year.

If you’d like to join the march, assemble in Whitehall Place, Central London, at 6pm for a 6.30 start. The march is for self-defining women only, but the rally following the march is open to all genders. The rally will be held in the Camden Centre, Euston, and will start at about 8pm. NUS Women’s Officer Olivia Bailey will be one of the speakers addressing the crowds.

'The Reclaim the Night March on Saturday is a great chance for women students to unite and stand against violence," said Olivia. "I urge you all to come along.'

On Saturday, Olivia will also be launching the Women’s Campaign’s new survey in to women students’ experiences of violence. The survey aims to uncover the specific experiences of women students, how violence affects their education, and to establish how safe or unsafe women students feel in different environments.

Olivia said: 'There is currently no information about women students' experience of violence, and it is high time we understand how it affects women students' lives. Through this research, we want to give survivors of violence a voice.'

The Women's Campaign will be launching a research report in the new year summarising their findings. We will also make recommendations for changes to ensure better support for those who have experienced violence as well as strategies for preventing it.
