“I’m a gay Ugandan activist currently studying engineering with the hope of advancing to the masters telecommunication class at Kings College. I hope to work in a field developing telecommunications solutions for technological deprived communities internationally. I am Christian, I am a member of my local church and I attend church regularly.

“My family was persecuted for our opposition to the government.  I was tortured and detained for my gay rights activist work, with the organisation Gay Rights Uganda. On escaping to the UK I was detained for nine months while my application for asylum was being processed. I still have not yet got a decision from the home office regarding my case.

“The home office wants to deport me on the grounds that the persecution I suffered in Uganda does not constituent persecution. Returning me to Uganda would put my life at risk because the Ugandan government is aware of my campaign activities.

“I have continued my activist work in the England, with a couple of friends, to raise awareness of the plight of lesbian, gay, bisexual and trans people in Africa. The Ugandan government has continued to attack me and colleagues in the Ugandan press for our work in London.

“As result of my involvement with activist work, university education and volunteering, I have formed a strong network of relations that have now become my ‘family’. I have managed to survive through the support of this family.

“For the first time in my life I feel safe in England, this has enabled to continue my activism work and achieve my child hood dream of becoming a telecommunications engineer.

“I want to be given a chance to complete my education, continue my activism work in the UK.”
